Keeping it Simple.

The world can be a noisy place. Whether it be the demands of day-to-day life, the voices clamoring for our attention, or the constant notifications dinging on a phone, it’s easy to get caught up in it. It’s also easy to think that this is normal. I mean, look around and everyone is doing it. It’s like everyone is running in the same hamster wheel. If we’re not careful, we can easily get distracted from reality and the things in life that really matter.

One way to reset and refocus is to spend time in the outdoors. This is something people have done for countless generations all around the world. Journeying to quiet places is a practice people in many (if not most) cultures have discovered and integrated. I can’t claim to fully know the reason why, but I do recognize it is there. Call me crazy, but I’d say there is something to it. For one reason or another, spending time in the quiet of the outdoors is good for us.

It also seems obvious that many people feel this urge. Travel to any national park or RV campground, and you are likely to see a multitude of people. However, the odd thing is that people seem determined to bring their distractions with them. As a result, “camping” seems to be becoming more and more complicated. It takes generators, coolers, inflatable beds, WiFi, and grills to “rough it” for a weekend. Not only can this kill our motivation to go, but it may also detract from the benefits we could be gaining in the first place.

The goal of this website is not complicated. At its heart, the purpose is to encourage people to keep things simple and develop their abilities. We hope to do this by sharing skills and knowledge and crafting simple tools. Using simple technology encourages skill development because technology can be an easy way to substitute skills.

Personally, I’ve found the outdoors to be an enjoyable place. Very rarely have I returned from a trip in a worse mood or feeling of having wasted my time. Instead, it helps to reset my mind and energizes me for the challenges of life. I generally return from camping trips with a better appreciation of the blessings of family, friends, good health, and God’s goodness. My hope is that sharing what I know will help people experience some of the same benefits. Although people have been enjoying the outdoors for eons, I suspect some people today may feel underequipped for a simple and quiet journey to the outdoors.

Thanks for visiting our website. We encourage you to keep it simple and enjoy the outdoors. You might be surprised at what you find waiting for you.
