Trail Horse Program

Trail Horse Philosophy

Not “just a trail horse.”

At the lowest level, a trail horse sticks its nose in another horse’s tail and walks. At a higher level, it’s a willing traveling companion that can travel with ease and grace over a variety of obstacles and natural features.

Basic Skills

If you’re going to haul a horse around the country, it’s essential that it has command of basic skills. These include trailer loading, picking up their feet, catching easily, and stand with patience. Basically, they need to be pleasant to be around. We strive to make horses that don’t have any of these “holes.”

Power Steering

A trail horse doesn’t have to be dull-mouthed and dead-sided. The job of a trail horse is safely transporting the rider wherever they would like to go. We enjoy making horses that respond to a rider’s cues softly and willingly.

Confidence

A trail horse should be able to ride alone or in groups with confidence. Training should also expose the horse to a variety of situations and obstacles.
